Do you have an appreciation for the multiple issues of supporting people with complex needs, experience working across multiple agencies at a supervisory or management level, and a solid understanding of homeless, housing, and welfare issues? ? Then join Shelter as a team leader and you could soon be playing a vital role in an exciting new peer mentoring service.

About Shelter:

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or health care. Yet millions of people in Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, poor housing conditions, skyrocketing rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. Therefore, we are fighting for change, with individuals, in communities, throughout society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need best-in-class, ambitious people, passionate about our cause, to join us in this exciting time. This is your opportunity to participate in the fundamental change we strive to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is social injustice at the center of the growing housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and of those who support our movement for change. In all our people's decisions, we pride ourselves on being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We are committed to fighting racism both inside and outside Shelter and we welcome you on our journey to become a truly anti-racist organization.

About the team:

Shelter is providing a peer mentoring service in partnership with Criminal Justice Diversion and Liaison Services (CJL & DS) which is funded by NHS England. CJL & DS assesses individuals with complex needs who have contact with the criminal justice system and provide early intervention to address health and social inequalities to reduce repeat offenders. The goal of the Peer Mentor service is to help clients with multiple and complex needs improve the support available through the link and diversion (L&D) pathway.

About the role:

Headquartered at the L&D offices in Walsall, you will be responsible for the delivery and line management of the L&D Peer Mentor Service in the Black Country area. In addition to managing and supporting peer mentors to provide a personalized holistic package of support while integrating joint working protocols within L&D services, we will also rely on you to assign referrals. And, when it comes to working with the Service Manager and Commissioners to identify gaps in provision and examples of positive and negative practices in service delivery, we will again be counting on you. In short, you will ensure the service runs smoothly, help develop a co-produced, person-centered service, and contribute to effective and demonstrable systems change.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and promoting a workplace where you can be yourself and succeed based solely on your merits.

About you:

To be successful, you will need experience in supporting and managing staff, including daily and formal supervision. You will also need a proven ability to promote service acceptance among multidisciplinary teams, both internally and externally. It is also important to appreciate the difficulties clients face in accessing local services, and to understand how to employ people with lived experience of useful complex needs. Forward-thinking and flexible, you are someone who welcomes the introduction of new ideas, methods, and processes. You are also proficient in using a variety of IT tools to get your job done, including case management systems, Microsoft applications, the Internet, and email.

Profits:

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual vacation, enhanced family policies, pensions, and interest-free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a lease deposit loan, payroll donations, cycle to work program, and an employee assistance program.

Shelter helps millions of people each year struggling with substandard housing or homelessness through our advice, support, and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one has to come to us for help. We are here so that no one has to fight alone against poor housing or lack of resourcese housing.
